Minding My Own Business

email

In his book “Think Like a Billionaire”, Donald Trump writes:

“Think of youself as a one-man army”

Similarly, Robert T. Kiyosaki writes in his book “Cashflow Quadrant”:

“Mind your own business”.

Although I am not a big fan of the army, both phrases are very powerful. The underlying message is to look at yourself as a running business, instead of an ‘employee’, or ‘middle class’, or similar. Although I currently am employed by a company, it does not prevent me from developing further ideas, to engage into investments, or to run a blog and earn some additional cash via Adsense. In fact, my full-time employment is nothing more than a contract in which I sell my time and knowledge for which I am getting paid. Why should it be my only source of income?

It has been hard for me to think beyond the “study hard and get a good job” mentality, as this has been a large part of my inner reality in the past. But at present, my way of thinking is shifting more towards a portfolio model, in which I realize that I am merely selling something to my employer, and under no circumstance am I restrained to selling this single product. I look at my full-time employment as part of a portfolio, which is continuously under development.

My ultimate goal is to make my time independent of my earnings and letting my money work for iteself, which in my opinion is the meaning of true wealth. Call it a passive income if you will, or running a business. In any case, 15th commitment is to build up, and to mind my own business.
